The 86 member-companies of PIRA are once again excited to promote the importance of insurance through the annual Insurance Consciousness Week. Ten years ago, when the executive order setting aside the second week of October for promoting insurance consciousness, PIRA has pledged to actively support all ICW activities. That pledge continues to this day. All of us in the association are convinced that insurance consciousness is necessary for our beloved country to progress and for our people to dream better things.
The historic flooding brought by tropical storm “Ondoy” was a wake-up call for all of us. Suddenly, our countrymen realized how exposed they are to various kinds of risks, particularly those caused by nature. Though the country has obviously recovered from that nightmare, we in PIRA are very much hopeful that Filipinos would not forget the lessons the Big Flood taught us all – especially the lesson that being insured and insured properly, is very important.
This year’s ICW serves as a warm-up for major international insurance events that will happen in the country in November. PIRA is supporting the 6th International Micro Insurance Conference which deals with insurance for poor and marginalized. We are also co-hosting this year’s ASEAN Insurance Council meetings which will be participated in by industry leaders and industry regulators from Southeast Asia. On top of these, we are backing the Young ASEAN Managers Awards which recognize the promising future leaders of the region.
We can therefore say that in the four weeks that will follow, all eyes of the insurance industry in the region will be focused on the Philppines.
It is PIRA’s privilege to be given this opportunity. As the umbrella organization of all non-life insurance companies in the country, PIRA will perform its role as the voice of the industry and promote the importance of insurance to everyone.
Mabuhay ang industriya ng seguro!
